Blair Allison & Co, Birmingham
I qualified as a solicitor in 1991 and have specialised in family and children law throughout my career. During my training, I focussed on Crime and Family Law at a leading Legal 500 firm in Birmingham successfully took a case to the Court of Appeal on the issue of the independence of a court appointed expert in care proceedings following the death of a child.
I moved to London to join a specialist Child Law Practice and became a member of the Law Society Children Panel in July 1995.
I became a Partner at Lawrence Davies & Co where I practised for 17 years.
My practice specialises in proceedings relating to children and I act for children and parents in care proceedings, other public laws proceedings including applications for contact to children in care and applications to discharge a care order and Special Guardianship and Secure Accommodation applications. The clients I represent may be experiencing a variety of challenges in their lives including mental health issues and addiction problems. I receive repeat instructions from Children’s Guardians on behalf of children in a variety of matters with the children’s ages ranging from 1 day old to 17 years and also acts for children directly with a regular caseload and an emphasis on representing adolescents.
The teenagers I represent have often been subject to a variety of different proceedings including care proceedings, Secure accommodation applications, contact to children in care and revocation of placement order applications. I have also acted for teenagers and young people seeking contact to siblings in care.
In addition, I frequently benefit from word of mouth referrals from previous clients and professionals with whom I have worked, including from for example local Advocacy Services and Children’s Guardians.
I also act for children and parents in private law matters including child arrangements orders (covering contact and residence), specific issue and prohibited steps.
I always fight my cases with determination and with an eye for detail to ensure the best possible chances of success. I acknowledge that excellent and reliable legal representation is essential to a client’s right to a fair hearing. I am committed to dealing with my clients in a sympathetic and caring manner, understanding that they are experiencing possibly the most difficult and stressful times of their lives. I approach each case with care and a keenness to ensure each client receives an individual service.
I aim to undertake the majority of the advocacy in all my cases to ensure clients have continuity of representation throughout their case.
