McMillan Williams offers the accessibility and personal service of a local firm but the presence of a national one. Having worked in a customer services role whilst studying, it was important for me to join a firm that focused on client relationships and service. McMillan Williams encompasses exactly this, looking to provide not only a recurring but also a lifelong service to its clients. McMillan Williams also strives to keep the personal development of its staff as important as corporate maturity, and paralegals are presented with numerous training and networking opportunities to enable progression as trainees and establish long-term success. I am exceptionally excited to be a part of such a fast expanding firm and look forward to developing my career with them.
Due to the success McMillan Williams has found in Brighton, I was given the opportunity to join the conveyancing department within the newly opened Hove office, and was keen to put my previous experience in the property industry into a legal context. With the areas of practice offered by McMillan Williams being so diverse, I hope to have the opportunity to broaden my knowledge beyond conveyancing in the future. McMillan Williams invests heavily in the welfare and progression of its staff. Throughout my time with the firm, as far back as the interviewing process, I have been presented with a fantastic support network and have been put at ease. As well as support from senior members of staff, McMillan Williams encourages paralegals and trainees to support each other. Quarterly meetings are held for all paralegals and trainees, enabling them to share mutual experiences and ask advice from those who may be further progressed into their training programme.
Great emphasis is placed on the Advocacy Competition held every year by McMillan Williams, as this not only provides junior staff with the opportunity to develop their research and drafting skills but also to gain confidence in advocacy. This competition is almost unique to McMillan Williams and will be an invaluable experience to all involved. It is a further indication of the firm’s commitment to the career progression of its paralegals and trainees and I look very much forward to participating in the 2015 competition.
