What previous students on the programme have said…
Samantha Fennah - Univeristy of Law Guildford (GDL & LPC Msc) - MW London Bridge
I applied to the MWSL work experience programme as I was keen to gain experience in a large multi office firm, particularly in the private client division as this is the area of law which I felt best suited me and my skills. I had previous experience as a part-time paralegal in a high-street firm with an office close to an MWSL office so when I saw that they ran a work experience programme I was keen to apply. I was lucky enough to be given a place on the programme and spent two weeks in London Bridge reporting to Andy Grant a partner in the private client department.
Andy threw me in at the deep end and allowed me to get involved in all aspects of his team’s work. I was taken to client meetings and undertook complex drafting tasks which meant I learnt a lot in a short space of time, something that I found extremely valuable. Andy was a great mentor, encouraging me to learn about MWSL as a business and giving me a excellent insight into the culture of the company. I went on to successfully apply for a paralegal role at the firm within the Private Client Services division, which is part of their graduate development programme. I look forward to developing my career at MWSL.
Renelle Roach - Kingston University (LLB and LLM) - MW New Addington / MW Westminster
I applied to the MWSL work experience programme with little previous exposure to law in practice. I was eager to gain some practical experience to help me decide whether law was definitely a career that I would want to pursue before committing myself to the LPC. I was aware of MWSL as, being from South London, I live near several local offices, and was pleased when I secured a place on the two week programme. I was based in the New Addington office under the supervision of a Crime solicitor. I was also paired with a trainee within the department to offer advice and guidance during the course of the programme.
I got exposure to various aspects of the team’s day-to-day work such as meeting clients, reading through cases and watching key pieces of evidence. This inspired me and sparked an interest in criminal defence work. I worked hard, staying later than I was required to to continue the work I was doing and to show commitment to the opportunity. It was this dedication and hard work that led to me being offered a three month internship with the company and I have now secured a paralegal role in the Crime and Extradition division as part of the graduate development programme. I eagerly look forward to developing my career at MWSL.
