I was appointed Director of Legal Services in October 2014 and am responsible for overseeing all the legal services provided by McMillan Williams, ensuring that we provide a high-quality service delivered by teams of highly motivated and talented professionals who are client focussed.

I myself specialise in Family Proceedings relating to children and have been a member of the Law Society Children Panel (Children's Representative) since September 2005 and also a member of the Association of Lawyers for Children.

I act for individuals who find themselves in unusual and distressing circumstances and deal with matters on a daily basis which most people would find inherently difficult to deal with.  I do this with a sympathetic and understanding approach, and I have earned a reputation for my thorough but sensitive handling of complex and difficult cases.

I have extensive experience in all proceedings relating to children, including

  • care proceedings
  • private law Children Act proceedings
  • child arrangement orders covering residence, contact and related proceedings
  • special guardianship
  • adoption
  • child abduction
  • surrogacy

I am often instructed by Guardians in Private Law Children Act Proceedings and advises professionals including adoption agencies, advocacy services and other national organisations.  I act for:

  • children (with a strong reputation for acting directly for teenagers)
  • parents (with a great deal of experience acting for acting with parents with mental health or learning difficulties)
  • grandparents and extended family members and is regularly recommended to clients by other Lawyers, professional agencies working with children and vulnerable adults, the Court service (and related areas) and existing clients.
  • I have always taken the view that if my fellow professionals are prepared to recommend him, that is the best endorsement possible.  I undertake my own advocacy ensuring consistency of representation where possible.

I am proud to be the legal adviser to SSAFA on adoption and child protection matters.

In his spare time Neil enjoys watching a good drama; tries to watch or see Chelsea at every opportunity, and spends as much time as possible with his wife and two young children.
