I am a Solicitor working in the Crime & Extradition Department.

I initially joined McMillan Williams in 2016 on a work experience basis in the Extradition Department. After 3 months I officially joined as a full time paralegal in the Crime & Extradition Department based in London Bridge.  My passion for criminal defence and extradition work means that I am hoping to qualify into the Crime and Extradition Department after successfully completing my Training Contract at McMillan Williams.

During my time as a paralegal I worked on variety of cases both in extradition and in crime.  I have regularly been involved in complex and high profile extradition cases dealing with a full spectrum of issues focusing particularly on Human Rights arguments in cases both in the Magistrates Court and at the High Court at the Royal Courts of Justice.

McMillan Williams are also currently instructed in the first ever extradition request from Nigeria, a case in which I am actively involved in.

I have also undertaken work on a variety of criminal cases ranging from simple motoring offences to more complex cases involving drugs, violent crimes, serious sexual offence cases, people trafficking and complex fraud cases. I am also currently undergoing my Police Station Accreditation which will enable me to represent clients at the Police Station.

In September 2017 I was fortunate enough to take part in the MW Advocacy Competition, both in the first rounds and as a junior advocate which involved a mock murder trial. I look forward to participating in this event again next year.

What My Clients Say About Me

“I just wanted to say how impressed I have been with Laura Hayward's work.  In all cases where I have worked with her she is extremely efficient and her work is of a very high standard even when under considerable time pressure” - Catherine Brown, Barrister, Furnival Chambers (February 2017)

“We had quite a difficult day at Court this week and I was so impressed with the way that Laura dealt with it. She was incredibly calm and patient and was the only person who could get the client to do anything! It would have been basically impossible to deal with the case had she not been there, not only because of how she was at Court but also because of the relationship she has built up with the client.  The District Judge also expressly commented on how well prepared the case was and he was very impressed with how much work had gone into the case. I have also been really impressed with how efficient she has been in preparing the case and getting things done.” - Florence Iveson, Barrister, 36 Bedford Row Chambers (June 2017)
