I am a solicitor specialising in actions against the police and civil actions against other detaining authorities. I have extensive experience in claims against the police including discrimination, assault and battery, wrongful arrest, false imprisonment, malicious prosecution and unlawful disclosure/retention of personal data. I also have experience in bringing judicial reviews against various state authorities and representing bereaved families during inquest proceedings and in subsequent damages claims. I have also worked on claims against local authorities mainly involving historical abuse claims and negligence and represented clients' during public inquiries.

I have a particular interest in representing victims of sexual abuse and young people who have been mistreated by state authorities. I have extensive experience of the police complaints process and representing clients in subsequent civil claims. I have achieved various positive outcomes for clients’ including changes in policies, compensation, and disciplinary sanctions for the officers involved.

I strive to achieve positive outcomes for my clients and believe communication is key. Advising clients at every stage is paramount together with managing their expectations and building a trusting relationship.

Recent Successes

  • Successfully representing a core participant during the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse.
  • Representing a client who was coerced into a sexual relationship with a senior police officer. The police officer was dismissed after misconduct proceedings.
  • Achieving compensation for a client who was unlawfully kettled and arrested at a protest at Birmingham University in 2014.
  • Achieving compensation in excess of £75,000 for a family whose son died in police custody.
  • Representing a family of 4 including 3 minor children after the police unlawfully attended their home and discharged a taser. Compensation was achieved in excess of £50,000.
